shanghai+singapore
went to shanghai and singapore with my parents. transitted in changi international airport for about 6 hours on the way to shanghai and i was so happy to find that they have a movie theater showing free movies! was just in time to watch 127 hours. hehe.the hotel in shanghai provided some 'helpful' items in the room
went shopping on nanjing road the next day. it's the main shopping road in shanghai. a lot of international brands.
on the third day, we went to the oriental pearl tower which is a tv tower and was the tallest structure in shanghai til 2007, but now it's the second tallest. here's my dad's attempt to take a photo of us with the tower.
here's my more successful attempt. had to bend down til my hair almost touched the ground. haha.
the two buildings in the middle are the tallest building in shanghai, the shanghai world financial center (the one with a square hole); and the jin mao tower in front of it which is the third tallest.
view of the bund from the sightseeing floor at 263m. the bund has historical buildings of various architectural styles and is also known as shang hai tan which was the title and the feature of the famous tv series.
we had an international buffet dinner at the revolving restaurant at 267m which was included in the price of our ticket - 298rmb for the sightseeing halls, dinner, and the museum. quite worth it.
we stayed for 2 hours in the restaurant, until it had completed one revolution. there's the shanghai world financial center and the jin mao tower.
night view of the bund
then we went down to the open air deck at 259m which had a glass floor
it was so cold and windy at some parts. not suitable for flowy skirts. haha.
then we went down some more to the shanghai municipal history museum which was bigger than we expected. they had some pretty realistic mannequins and models of old shanghai, including this pretty girl that everyone stopped to marvel at.
pharmacist!
night view of the tower
we went to the china pavilion of the shanghai expo 2010 the next day. it was a world expo participated by many countries last year and they kept the china one open.
on the fifth day, we went to the city god temple or cheng huang miao which refers to the district around the temple. there are lots of shops there. it's a touristy place where you have to bargain or they will really rip you off.
we had xiao long pao at this famous nan xiang man tou dian where there were lots of people queuing up outside for takeway but we managed to find a place to sit inside. the higher up you go, the more expensive stuff there is. we only went to the first floor and thought we might go to a higher floor for dinner but ended up not going.
had this pao which was just full of soup and you don't eat the pao. expensive for just a few spoonfuls of soup. haha
the next day, we flew to singapore where we stayed in a hotel at geylang because we didn't know that f1 was going on that weekend and all the hotels were full. the rooms were small but it had the basic things. no 'helpful' items provided here. haha.
we had dinner in chinatown and then went shopping in orchard road the next day. had chilli crab for the first time. spicy but quite nice.
it was at a place in geylang called no signboard seafood coz when they first started, they could not afford a sign so their customers referred to them as the no signboard shop
on our last day, we shopped some more at bugis junction. it was our first time there and it's quite a nice place
then we flew back to kuching and found that air asia had lost one of our luggages, which soured our good mood. luckily they recovered it the next day. so quite a fruitful trip. got my cny shopping done. haha.
