what i don't like about scotland
the weather: when it's sunny, it's alright. can still be cold though. but when it rains, it sucks. and it rains at any and all stupid times of the day. rain is fine when i'm in the comfort of home. but when i'm caught in the rain or it prevents me from going out, i hate it. i don't like getting wet, especially when it's already cold.the long walks: the shops are all so far away. it's a looong, tedious, arm-breaking journey when we're carrying heavy grocery. even when it's not really heavy, it becomes damn heavy after carrying it for so long.
coins: i don't understand why the scots love their lousy coins. they're bigger and heavier and they also have 2 pence and 2 pound coins. no 1 0r 2 pound notes. when we get change it's a whole pile of coins. and they don't know how to count. when i gave 13 pounds for a top that costed 7.99, the cashier looked at me and said "it's 7.99". i wanted a 5 pound note as change la!! she gave me back my three 1 pound coins and then gave me 2 more as change. stupid. all the cashiers are like that. our wallets are all bulging but i have yet to find a nice coin purse.
washing machines: the dumb washing machines and dryers downstairs only accept 1 pound, 50p, and 20p coins. it costs 1.60 to wash and around 60p to dry. so being unable to collect sufficient 20p coins, we tend to pay 1.70 for washing and maybe 50p for drying, which means we waste 10p on washing and get clothes which aren't quite dry.
kitchen taps: there's one tap for hot water and another for cold. now why would they do that? who wants to wash their hands with freezing water, and on the other hand, who wants to burn their hands? and it's difficult to adjust it to warm water coz the bloody water lags. you on the water for some time and it's trickling, then suddenly it's gushing. so you have to readjust the taps. and the trouble doesn't end there. the water doesn't come out uniformly warm. you can actually feel one side hot and one side cold. idiots!
the shower: lately it has been nice and warm, but when it's cold, it's a torture.
the bank: they just can't get everything done at once. first, you go there to open a current account, and maybe a savings. a week later, go back to collect your atm card for your current account. a few days later, the pin code. if it's not done, go back again. when you receive the atm card for your savings account, you have to sign the enclosed form and pass it back to the bank again. and the bank isn't very near either! a trip to the bank takes up half an hour of our 1 hour lunch time. and we can't go after school coz the bank closes at 4.45 (sometimes earlier) and classes end at 5.
the fridge: it's way too small for 4 people to share. our stuff is somewhat crammed and we have to go through a stack of butter, overnight food, and ham to get to our milk.
that's all i can think of for now. i hope it's just my pms and i will somehow grow to like it here. soon.
