today

today was a tiring day. first there was the fmt1 class test which i didn't study properly for. and so many questions came out from the parts i skipped.

but here is my hanging lamp which i'm quite proud of. it was too short before, but now it illuminates everything nicely!
then we walked (quite a distance) to glasgow green for a picnic

posers

ee lynn let me sit on her :D

naz with one of the 3 huge horses we saw
me and amir at the people's palace

then we went to tesco for groceries and only got home after 5.30. and it was my turn to cook, so no rest for me. although i did like the pork i cooked today. hehe.

and now, finally, harry potter.
the two men appeared out of nowhere...

..

sometimes my hair does stupid things and stays that way the whole day

medieval festival

yesterday we took a train to linlithgow for a medieval festival thingy. 8 pounds for entry into the castle.

the first thing we saw was this guy talking about armor and putting it on piece by piece with the help of his squire

in full armor
me and naz in the great hall with a huge fireplace behind

4 knights going to joust

first they warm up by trying to hit the shield of the wooden man. then they go at each other.

a blue knight

they put a squire in a sack for 'punishment'

and dragged her around the field

the red knights

the blue knights won

we all climbed up the highest tower

but it was so high and windy..
that me and naz chickened out before the last flight of stairs

swordfight!

on the slope behind the castle

they decided to climb a tree. and that's a french guy in the middle. his name is sylvain, pronounced sevaun.

and we just came back in from another fire alarm. some potatoes caught fire in an oven. the whole batch was standing out in the cold again and got a warning that we might get fined if there's another fire in our apartments. the first one was caused by burning butter.

st mungo

on friday, we went to the oldest house in scotland where i didn't take any photos. we also went to st mungo's hospital for magical maladies. no, actually st mungo's museum of religious history (or something like that). they exhibited stuff from religions all over the world.

stained glass

there's a sarwakian shield next to the islamic armor. as van says, we're represented!

then we walked over to st mungo's cathedral
more stained glass

a pipe organ

and erm, where mass is held i guess

pp3 and harry potter

so. i failed my first pp3 class test. quite badly too. -105 marks. that's 100-40-45-120 marks. and van got 80 marks. haha. oh well, good practice i guess. i made quite a lot of stupid mistakes so must be sure to be careful next time.

then we went to watch harry potter at the world's tallest cinema. 12 floors.
the seats are pretty good. lots of leg space. you can almost stretch your legs straight. but they aren't punctual either. i thought we should go in early coz they would start on time, but i was wrong. the movie was at 4.40 but the trailers started at 4.55 and the movie only started at 5.05. anyway..the movie was alright. as usual, a lot was changed but i wasn't expecting too much of it so it was ok. i don't think it was worth 3.40 pounds though. hehe.

today and monday are public holidays. i don't know for what occasion though. naz is making pancakes. time for lunch!

today

pp3 was tougher than i expected. van said it was pretty straightforward. but then we get different prescriptions. 3 prescriptions in 2 hours. i spent 1 hour on a veterinary prescription and had to rush my last one in which i referred to the prescriber four times when you're only supposed to refer once. so -15 marks already. don't know how many more mistakes i made but if they're not too serious (the serious ones are -60) i guess i can still pass.

sterile labs are boring. today was my last one. we looked at our incubated agar plates and broths. so many colonies of bacteria and fungi. gross.

made beef stew tonight and put in too many potatoes. i don't know how to gauge. but it was ok. very full now. van and ee lynn said it was good. but they compliment everything. haha. ok, not complaining. :P i'm so skeptical. haha.

got the poker bug. we're hoping kah wei will bring the cards and chips over later so we can play.

khai yong's birthday

dinner consisting of van's chicken, naz n nadia's potato tuna pasta, and kah wei's coleslaw
my portion of food with a place-card made by van (it says pornstar, in case you can't see. these people love me so much :P)

kah wei's tutty fruity delight

the birthday cake

i didn't take pictures of the people. oops. haha. after dinner we went over to khai yong's place to play poker and drink. then we played the drinking game called 'i've never' in which secrets were spilled. we started off trying to target khai yong but then it got more confessional and i left before it got too dark and dirty. i was tired anyway. hehe. went home and talked with ee lynn and van who'd left before the game began. slept at 2smth, which is the latest i've slept here yet.

pp3 class test tomorrow. the subject where you can get -200 marks and fail many many times. this first test doesn't count but it's a good practice. have to study now..

what i don't like about scotland

the weather: when it's sunny, it's alright. can still be cold though. but when it rains, it sucks. and it rains at any and all stupid times of the day. rain is fine when i'm in the comfort of home. but when i'm caught in the rain or it prevents me from going out, i hate it. i don't like getting wet, especially when it's already cold.

the long walks: the shops are all so far away. it's a looong, tedious, arm-breaking journey when we're carrying heavy grocery. even when it's not really heavy, it becomes damn heavy after carrying it for so long.

coins: i don't understand why the scots love their lousy coins. they're bigger and heavier and they also have 2 pence and 2 pound coins. no 1 0r 2 pound notes. when we get change it's a whole pile of coins. and they don't know how to count. when i gave 13 pounds for a top that costed 7.99, the cashier looked at me and said "it's 7.99". i wanted a 5 pound note as change la!! she gave me back my three 1 pound coins and then gave me 2 more as change. stupid. all the cashiers are like that. our wallets are all bulging but i have yet to find a nice coin purse.

washing machines: the dumb washing machines and dryers downstairs only accept 1 pound, 50p, and 20p coins. it costs 1.60 to wash and around 60p to dry. so being unable to collect sufficient 20p coins, we tend to pay 1.70 for washing and maybe 50p for drying, which means we waste 10p on washing and get clothes which aren't quite dry.

kitchen taps: there's one tap for hot water and another for cold. now why would they do that? who wants to wash their hands with freezing water, and on the other hand, who wants to burn their hands? and it's difficult to adjust it to warm water coz the bloody water lags. you on the water for some time and it's trickling, then suddenly it's gushing. so you have to readjust the taps. and the trouble doesn't end there. the water doesn't come out uniformly warm. you can actually feel one side hot and one side cold. idiots!

the shower: lately it has been nice and warm, but when it's cold, it's a torture.

the bank: they just can't get everything done at once. first, you go there to open a current account, and maybe a savings. a week later, go back to collect your atm card for your current account. a few days later, the pin code. if it's not done, go back again. when you receive the atm card for your savings account, you have to sign the enclosed form and pass it back to the bank again. and the bank isn't very near either! a trip to the bank takes up half an hour of our 1 hour lunch time. and we can't go after school coz the bank closes at 4.45 (sometimes earlier) and classes end at 5.

the fridge: it's way too small for 4 people to share. our stuff is somewhat crammed and we have to go through a stack of butter, overnight food, and ham to get to our milk.

that's all i can think of for now. i hope it's just my pms and i will somehow grow to like it here. soon.

isle of cumbrae

on saturday, we went to the isle of cumbrae to go cycling

on the train to largs

on the ferry to the isle

we rented bikes to cycle around the island

kah wei and naz got a tandem bike

we ate our packed lunch at this nice cliffy area

as you can see, it was a happy trip. until it started to rain. we had to be back at the bus station by 4pm so we were rushing to make it back around the island in time. the guys then went on ahead leaving me, ee lynn and nadia behind. it was horrible. i was damn tired and all wet. to make it worse, my stupid hood wouldn't stay on my head. the wind kept blowing it off. some water even leaked into my jacket. my butt hurt from the lousy seat and my legs were so exhausted from cycling. i was seriously pissed and miserable. we finally made it back after like two hours of non-stop cycling. we'd cycled for about 3 hours in total and covered 11km. after we returned our bikes, it was freaking cold coz we were no longer exercising. i was in a pretty bad mood.

then on the train back, there was a bunch of underaged teens who were drunk and extremely noisy. i somehow managed to fall asleep amidst the ruckus and when i woke up, ee lynn told me that police had come on the train and the kids had hidden the alcohol so the police did nothing. how stupid is that. then a few stops later, some police came in again but the kids had gotten off the train. however, the police reassured a disgruntled old man that there were other police at the station and a bit later he said the kids had been caught.

so i don't think i'll go for anymore trips which may cause me to be stranded in the rain. i don't like rain. cold + wet = miserable. :/
